Do you have to live in Santa Monica to be a part of this group?
Santa Monica Homeschoolers is not the boss of you. You don't have to live in Santa Monica. Heck, you don't have to live anywhere. You can wander around all day, though you might get a little tired. You just have to be a homeschooler, or interested in homeschooling as an option and yearning to see and speak to real live homeschoolers. The park day parks are all located in Santa Monica, that's all.
Why?
Because there are a lot of homeschoolers in the Santa Monica area, and not all of them have wheels. Some of these parks are within walking distance of some very nice Santa Monica homeschoolers, and at least a couple are easy to bus to.
Should I bring anything in particular to park day gatherings?
Just the usual stuff -- water, sunscreen, snacks, maybe one of those folding chairs. Joslyn park is routinely ten to twenty degrees cooler than the rest of the city -- it's a law of physics or something -- and always in the way of a stiff ocean breeze, so bring a lot of layers even if it's not cold where you are. If you're new, bring paper and something to write with to jot down phone numbers and homeschooling tips. Also, if you're trying to get in good with the founder, chocolate is always a good idea. Not that sissy milk stuff, either. She drives a car with a bumper sticker that says, "Give me dark chocolate or give me death!"
Really?
No. But I wouldn't put it past her.
What are the rules of conduct at park days?
No hitting, no spitting, no biting, no bullying language.
What about for the kids?
The same, plus we suggest they wear closed-toe shoes, as most of these parks have a lot of sand. Also, no bringing chocolate unless you have enough to share with the founder.
What about the discussion list? What's it take to get on that?
My weight in gold, delivered to my doorstep.
Could you be serious for a minute, please?
See the discussion list page for detailed instructions.
Is any FAQ page complete without a link to the finest recipe for brownies in the known universe?
Do you even have to ask?
So where is it, already?
Keep your shirt on. Here it is.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Can't think of anything. Unless you still can't find that remote, of course. Try under the couch.
